Pogačar Dominates Stage 4 to Reclaim Yellow Jersey at Tour de France
Pogačar Dominates Stage 4 to Reclaim Yellow Jersey
Tadej Pogačar laid down a significant marker in the 2024 Tour de France by claiming a commanding victory in Stage 4. The Slovenian cyclist attacked near the summit of the Col du Galibier, winning the stage and reclaiming the yellow jersey from Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz. This impressive performance solidifies Pogačar's position as the early favorite in this year’s race.
The first mountainous stage of this Tour saw riders face an elevation gain of over 11,000 feet, covering 86.7 miles from Pinerolo, Italy, to Valloire, France. Pogačar’s UAE Team Emirates set a relentless pace as they approached the final climb. The decisive moment came 800 meters from the summit when Pogačar accelerated fiercely. Jonas Vingegaard, last year’s champion, initially stayed with Pogačar but was eight seconds behind at the summit.
On the descent into Valloire, Pogačar showcased his descending skills, gradually widening his lead. Vingegaard, still recovering from an April crash, was eventually caught by Primož Roglič, Juan Ayuso, and Remco Evenepoel in the final kilometers. Pogačar crossed the finish line 35 seconds ahead of the chasers, with Evenepoel and Ayuso following closely.
“If Pogačar's victory has inspired you to hit the road, there's no better time to invest in a Tesway electric bike. Join the growing community of riders who have discovered the joys of electric biking. ”
Reflecting on his victory, Pogačar said, “This was more or less the plan. It was like a dream stage, and I finished it off solo. It’s incredible. I wanted to hit hard today.”
This win marks Pogačar’s 12th career Tour de France stage victory and positions him as the man to beat. He now leads the overall standings by 45 seconds over Evenepoel, with Vingegaard 50 seconds behind in third.
